Exhumations: Missing Person's Fate has been Traced
Because of the recent exhumations and DNA identifications in the non-occupied area of Cyprus, the fate of another missing person has been traced. Lygkos, Thomas Pantelis was a soldier from Greece serving in the Greek Military Force of Cyprus (ELDYK). He was considered missing since August 16, 1974.

Nikos Theodosiou: We should stop hiding behind our finger
"We should stop hiding behind our finger and start blaming Turkey for the new dead-end in the missing persons' issue", said Nikos Theodosiou at a recent interview with the "Dhilini" newspaper. The president of the Pancyprian Organization of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons said that the relatives plan to start a campaign to persuade the international community to put political pressure on Rauf Denkash, the Turkish-Cypriot leader, and Turkey. According to "Dhilini", Denktash has fulfilled none of his recent promises for exhumations of mass graves in the occupied areas. This has leaded the UN to silently bury their efforts to solve the problem.

Demonstration of July 19th: Announcement and Resolution
Here is a joint announcement, by the pancyprian and panhellenic committees of the missing persons' relatives. It expresses the relatives' sorrow for Turkey's negative attitude toward the problem, and states that the relatives will continue their struggle for the respect of their human right to know what has happened to their loved ones. The announcement has been read during the recent (July 19th) demonstration. During the same demonstration, a resolution toward the General Secretary of the UN was also approved. It calls for the G-S to continue his efforts to find a solution to the missing persons' problem, and to put pressure on the turkish government, in order to abandon its negative attitude.

Activities for July 2002
The Organization of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons, along with members of the Panhellenic Committee of Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons During the Cyprus Tragedy of 1974, are organizing a series of activities under the title "Missing Persons Remembrance Day". These will be held in July 19 2002.

Danish Photojournalists to Publish Book on the Cyprus Issue
Claus Sjoedin from Aarhus, Denmark has recently communicated with us, sending two photographs from a 2001 demonstration, at the Ledra Palace checkpoint, held by relatives of the missing.
Claus, along with another photojournalist, Morten Fauerby, plans to publish a book / photo album on the Cyprus issue. The problem of the Missing will, of course, be part of it.

Clerides Initiative for the Missing
An initiative of the Cyprus Government, for the discussion of the issue of the missing persons with the t/c
side, is in progress. This, according to a statement of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Glafkos
Clerides. "As far as our side is concerned, we keep supporting this initiative", the President said.
