DNA Identifications - The fate of 14 missing persons has been traced

At the begining of September, the Institute of Genetics at Nicosia has issued the final results on the DNA identification of another 43 people who have been killed during the 1974 Turkish Invasion. Among them, were 14 who have been in the missing persons' catalog since then.

Seminar "Missing Persons of Cyprus - Perspectives for a Solution"

Last May, the Pancyprian Organization of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons organized a seminar titled "Missing Persons of Cyprus - Perspectives for a Solution". Its purpose was to evaluate the efforts of Cyprus and international authoritites for the solution of the problem and to exchange opinions on its handling in the future. Announcement related to Mr. Rustem Tatar's Statements to the Turkish Cypriot press dated 9/8/2000

This is an announcement from the Pancyprian Organization of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons related to some recent statements from Mr. Rustem Tatar, the Turkish-Cypriot member of the UN's Investigative Committee for the missing Cypriots. (Mr. Tatar called the Greek Cypriots to accept his proposal to declare all the missing people as dead in advance, and the efforts for the recovery of their remains to follow).

Koukkoularis, Christos Constantinos from Athens, Greece, was serving in the Cyprus' Greek Military (ELDYK), when he was killed during the 1974 Turkish Invasion in Cyprus.

Speech of Minister of External Affairs

During the protest march that took place from the Ledra Palace Hotel to the Holly Archdiocese of Cyprus (Saturday, May 6 2000), the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, has given a speech. Among other things, he said that the search for persons who have been buried in the government-controlled area of Cyprus and may have been included by mistake in the missing persons' list, will continue. Also, he announced the Government' s intention to de-classify the official catalog of the missing (as opposed to the unofficial catalog of the relatives' Committee, which is included in this page) shortly.

Resolution to the General Secretary of the U.N.

Last Saturday, the attendants of a public demonstration at the finish of a protest march that took place from the Ledra Palace Hotel to the Holly Archdiocese of Cyprus, which was one of the activities of the 16th Charity Marathon for the Missing, have approved a resolution to the Secretary General of the U.N., regarding the Missing Persons issue.
