Last Saturday, the attendants of a public demonstration at the finish of a protest march that took place from the Ledra Palace Hotel to the Holly Archdiocese of Cyprus, which was one of the activities of the 16th Charity Marathon for the Missing, have approved a resolution to the Secretary General of the U.N., regarding the Missing Persons issue.

TO HIS EXCELLENCY MR. KOFI ANAN
SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE U.N.

Your Excellency,

Today' s massive demonstration, which is being held at Nicosia during the sixteenth Charity Marathon for the Missing,

EXPRESSES our intense anxiety, because the humanistic problem of the Missing Persons has not yet been resolved, in violation of the International Declaration of Human Rights and the resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council of the U.N.

DEMANDS that the United Nations Organization, this unique guardian of Human Rights, must accept its responsibilities against this blatant violation of the Human Rights of our Missing and their families, and

INVITES YOU

First: To renew your efforts for the verification of the fate of each Missing Person with persuasive and specific evidence,

Second: To take all appropriate steps in order to oblige the Turkish side, to abandon its negative attitude towards the Missing Persons issue and to sincerely cooperate for its resolution, and

Third: To point out the necessity for substantial investigation of the fate, of each Missing person within the terms of reference of the Investigation Committee which is under your authority and the immediate enforcement of the Clerides-Denktash agreement for the Missing, that took place in July 31th 1997 in the presence of your plenipotentiary special representative in Cyprus at the time.

Η σημερινή μαζική συγκέντρωση, που πραγματοποιείται στη Λευκωσία στα πλαίσια του ΙΣΤ'(δέκατου έκτου) Μαραθωνίου Αγάπης Αγνοουμένων,

ΕΚΦΡΑΖΕΙ την έντονη ανησυχία της γιατί το ανθρωπιστικό πρόβλημα των Αγνοουμένων δεν έχει βρει ακόμη τη λύση του, κατά παράβαση της Οικουμενικής Διακήρυξης των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων και των ψηφισμάτων της Γενικής Συνελεύσεως και του Συμβουλίου Ασφαλείας του Ο.Η.Ε.,

ΑΠΑΙΤΕΙ από τον Οργανισμό Ηνωμένων Εθνών, ως τον κατεξοχή θεματοφύλακα των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων, ν' αναλάβει τις ευθύνες του έναντι της κραυγαλέας παραβίασης των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων των Αγνοουμένων μας και των οικογενειών τους, και

ΣΑΣ ΚΑΛΕΙ

Πρώτο: Να ανανεώσετε τις προσπάθειες σας για διακρίβωση της τύχης του κάθε Αγνοούμενου με πειστικά και συγκεκριμένα στοιχεία,

Δεύτερο: Να λάβετε όλα τα απαραίτητα μέτρα για να υποχρεωθεί η Τουρκική πλευρά να εγκαταλείψει την αρνητική της στάση στο θέμα των Αγνοουμένων και να συνεργασθεί ειλικρινά για την επίλυση του, και

Τρίτο: Να υποδείξετε την ανάγκη για ουσιαστική διερεύνηση της τύχης, του κάθε Αγνοούμενου στα πλαίσια της Διερευνητικής Επιτροπής που τελεί υπό την αιγίδα σας και άμεση εφαρμογή της συμφωνίας Κληρίδη-Ντεκτάς για τους Αγνοούμενους, που έγινε στις 31 Ιουλίου 1997 στη παρουσία του τότε αναπληρωτή ειδικού αντιπροσώπου σας στην Κύπρο.
